The dragon opened its jaws to reveal razor sharp teeth and let out a bellowing roar which shook Nergüi to her core yet it only served to spark the smouldering kindling in her heart. It blew smoke at her as a warning but still she approached, enamoured by the grand being. The dragon caught wind of her presence, landing close to the eastern mountains and finally giving Nergüi a moment to catch her breath. Her lungs burned as she ran without respite, scrambling over the rocky outcrops as quickly as she could. ![]() Captivated, Nergüi sprinted around the man, sparing the boy one last glance as she bounded over the rocks to give chase to the dragon and ignoring the shouts of the man behind her. What a beautiful creature! Never had she seen such a beast. Looking up they saw a large dragon with crimson scales sailing over them. “You are not from my tribe-” As he reached to seize her the sun was blocked out and a strong wind washed over them, threatening to pull her off the ground. “You there!” Nergüi jolted and realised the man was marching towards her with a most furious frown upon his brow. His golden eyes matched the stripes of gold in his hair. “A true warrior never drops his weapon!” The young boy quickly scrambled to his feet, reaching for his own axe, though he stopped and glanced up in her direction. “Again, to your feet!” he snapped, slamming the end of the axe into the ground and making the pebbles around it jump. She heard shouting and the clang of steel, and peering from behind the structure she saw a young Au-Ra being sent flying to the ground by a far taller man wielding a giant stone like axe. One day during the summer of her 11th year she left the scheduled spot in the mountains and ventured toward the Dawn Throne, admiring the stone ruins that protruded from the luscious grass. Oft would she sneak out of the hut and away from the training grounds, shirking the heavy cowl to let her vibrant orange locks flow in the breeze as she wandered the vast land of the Azim Steppe, taking note of the different plants and flowers, and the creatures that shared the land with them. Though as she grew, it became apparent she had no interest in the teachings of the reapers. On the 26th sun of the 2nd Umbal Moon day was Nergüi Arulaq born, her eye's limbal rings shining as bright as the moon that hung high in the sky.Īs per the tribe's traditions, she was garbed in thick black clothes with a heavy cowl and with the other first born was raised from birth to bear the reaper's legacy. All first borns of the Arulaq tribe were destined to walk the path of the reapers serving to protect the tribe and guide their souls back to the earth. ![]()

Bulk buying is economical and unless I become severely space constrained, I plan to ignore its description as hoarding. ![]() They get stored in different places and I found that I spent more time putting away and gathering things that needed to go into my bag, sometimes forgetting items. I have disparate items that I carry in my bag. "Empty your bag everyday" didn't work for me.Fewer places to look for things, consequently things are easier to find. Broad classification for storing items works well. I used to store stuff by fine-grained categories which made things more difficult to find.Separating the two clearly has reduced the interruptions in my head, resulting in better focus and higher productivity. The "play hard" part becomes difficult when I don't feel like I've accomplished the "work hard" part not because I didn't work hard, but because of distractions from work remnants. From the technique to designate a place for each thing: I'm a "work hard, play hard" kind of person. The focus has shifted firmly to my on-going and near-future side-projects. From the part about dealing with mementos: I found that when applied to my mind, it helped me to eliminate wasteful brain cycles on past, incomplete side-projects and hobbies that I'm unlikely to resume.Bringing all things of the same category together gives a clearer big picture and makes it easier to decide what to get rid of hint: bigger pile means you're likely to dispose off more. Tidying by category is an excellent idea.I interpreted the part about "keeping only the things that bring joy" along slightly more practical lines of "is this something I will use going forward?" This interpretation seemed a little less "fluffy" to me.Tidying up is about getting rid of things, not finding places to put (hide?) things away. ![]() Looking back at the last few weeks to see what I actually used, here's what I've learned: These would weigh heavily on my mind whenever I spent time broadly reflecting on how things were going and whether I'd made progress in my various endeavors.Īround the same time, in January, I'd started trying to re-organize my life (yeah, a bit radical) using the techniques outlined in Getting Results the Agile Way and there are some common threads in both books which apply broadly to better self-organization.Įight weeks later, I re-read the book, this time prepared to filter out the awkward bits and focus on the core. Truth be told, I take on way more things than I realistically have time for. I was often left feeling like I'd never done enough and there were lots of incomplete projects (mostly software) or things I wanted to get better at (photography, playing the saxophone, etc). I'm one of those people who has at least 1 side-project going on in addition to a serious hobby. I decided to let the ideas, bereft of the awkward bits, simmer for a few days before deciding to put them into practice.Ībout a week later, I realized that the ideas could apply, not just for physical possessions, but also for a lot of ideas and thoughts swirling in my head. So, considering that the average person is unlikely to act in such a (inappropriate?) way, I was wary particularly of the technique where you're expected to touch each thing to determine if it brings you joy. throwing other people's stuff away without asking them, dumping unwanted stuff on a younger sibling, etc. Some of the anecdotes make the author seem a few cards short of a full deck. When I read the book, I was a rather skeptical. I first read this book in January and decided to wait to review it till I could figure out if the methods in the book were practical. But be ready to filter out some strange anecdotes and slightly whacky techniques. Below, in alphabetical order, we highlight 11 of the best cordless drills we’ve tested, in all three sizes. There, you can filter more than 60 drills according to your needs, including category, price, weight, and noise level. CR members can also explore our comprehensive cordless drill ratings. If you’re unsure about what kind of cordless drill to buy, start with our cordless drills buying guide. We also incorporate ratings for predicted reliability and owner satisfaction based on data from CR’s member surveys. We translate those readings into scores for power, speed, and run time. How Consumer Reports Tests Cordless Drillsįor our cordless drill tests, we narrow down the field to the most widely available models and run them through a series of tests in our lab, where we use a device called a dynamometer that measures torque under different loads. Their batteries range in power from 12 to 20 volts, but their relatively small motors don’t spin or drive with the same force as heavy-duty or general-use drills. We also test light-duty drills, which are best-suited for small jobs around the house, such as assembling flat-packed furniture, changing a light fixture, or drilling into drywall. In fact, according to a recent CR member survey, two-thirds of those who own cordless drills have a model that’s 18 volts or more. But despite the capabilities of these smaller drills, most people prefer larger, heavy-duty options. DeWalt 20V Max Cordless Impact Driver Photo: DeWalt is one of the most trusted power tool brands out there, so it’s little surprise that its 20V Max impact driver is the best. They offer plenty of power for most household tasks, like hanging a shelf or tightening screws, and they weigh less, too. Lower-voltage drills, which we call general-use drills in our ratings, typically use about 12 volts. They’re typically heavier but also more capable of tackling difficult tasks like boring a large hole through studs or joists, or driving hundreds of screws on a single battery charge, which is what you’d want if you were building a deck. Higher-voltage drills, which we call heavy-duty in our ratings, have 18 to 20 volts of power or more. The voltage of your drill dictates the size of the job it can tackle. You can adjust the voltage to match the project you’re working on, and save money by buying bare tools to complete your set.” “So you can use the same batteries for your drill, chainsaw, and string trimmer. “A more recent trend we’re seeing is interchangeable batteries that work among a brand’s entire suite of power tools,” says Courtney Pennicooke, CR’s market analyst for cordless drills. And the changes aren’t unique to cordless drills they’ve occurred across many of the power tools we test. These improvements in cordless drills come thanks to advancements in lithium-ion battery technology and the introduction of brushless motors, which are more powerful despite requiring less energy. In the past decade, cordless drills have become more powerful, lighter, and energy-efficient, making corded drills practically obsolete. In fact, we would argue that it’s the single most important item in your toolbox.
